Thomas E. Alex, PMP

Tom is a Principal Consultant and the Director of Technology for Merida. He joined the firm in 2014 bringing more than 32 years of extensive IT experience. He has worked within the asset management industry supporting institutional, retail and fund managers. He combines his deep technical background with enterprise project leadership and execution. Tom has served as a technical architect, outsourcing daily recon operations for 20,000 accounts across 50 custodians; performed strategic systems selections for accounting/performance/reconciliation functions; and led strategic client reporting selection projects. He has implemented Data Warehouse and Data Governance strategies. Tom is a thought leader who has delivered presentations on BitCoin and Blockchain technology.

Prior to joining Meradia, Tom was the Director of IT for Brandywine Global Investment Management, a $50B asset management firm. In this role Tom introduced standards and controls, expanded the application portfolio, organized operational and market data expense, and improved internal reporting platforms. Tom leveraged vendor relationships and outsourcing arrangements to reduce annual costs, and he introduced a centralized service desk. Tom also led two comprehensive platform conversions spanning front, middle and back office systems. He supported all data management analysis and processing activities. He also introduced an automated 24x7 production platform that supported trading, operations, and client service. Before Brandywine, Tom held various IT roles, including application development and systems engineer.

Tom holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Computer Science from Loyola University, and has earned certifications for PMP, ITIL, and Infogix Data Governance. He keeps current with evolving cloud architectures, particularly the Microsoft stack such as .Net, Azure, SharePoint and Office 365. Outside of work Tom enjoys playing golf and reading about science and world history.
